This week this book has brought me to tears twice. It is unimaginable what this child had to endure. Since my last blog, the mother has become even more of a monster. She has stopped feeding him completely, makes him sleep on the garage floor, stopped driving him to school, made him eat one of his brothers soiled diapers, drink Clorox and ammonia, forced his back on a hot stove to brand him like a cow, and her most recent criminal act, stabbed him in the stomach. Keep in mind he is only in 4th grade. Dave has become "rebellious" in the eyes of the school officials because he steals food from his peers, wears the same clothes everyday, and steals frozen food trays from the cafeteria. When his mother found out, she forced the food out of his mouth by shoving her fingers down his throat. He was so starving he began to eat the regurgitated food and his coward of a father nodded in approval because he is too much of a wimp to stand up to his wife and defend his child.
With every word I read, my frustration grows stronger and stronger. I want to yell and scream at his mother for being such a horrible excuse for a mother who should does not deserve the privilege of raising a child. And I want to reprimand the father for doing absolutely nothing to protect his child from this monster. I have become inspired to research programs about children who have been abused and maybe start an organization that accepts donations to help more children in this devastating situation. I have been lucky to be placed in an amazing family and I want to be able to help those who have not been as fortunate.
